Pricing and Availability
The price you see on a result card or the rental product page is the price you'll pay (pre-tax). Here's how it's worked out, and what to do when something doesn't add up.
How pricing works
For every rental product:
- Base rate × days × quantity
- Apply any length-tier discount (e.g. 7+ days = 20% off)
- Apply any seasonal date adjustment (e.g. high-season = +25%; low-season = −10%)
- Add add-ons (each multiplied by quantity)
- Add delivery fee (if you chose delivery)
- Total = the number you see
Taxes are applied at checkout per local rules.
Why does the price change as I move dates?
Two reasons:
- Length tiers — passing a tier threshold (e.g. from 6 to 7 days) drops the per-day rate
- Date adjustments — moving into / out of a seasonal window changes the per-day rate
If you see the price suddenly drop (or jump), check the date range against the next tier or seasonal boundary.
Why is the price different from the listing card?
The listing card shows a representative price for typical dates. The product page recalculates for your dates, which may include:
- A discount (your rental is long enough to trigger a tier)
- An uplift (your rental is in a high-season window)
The product page total is always the source of truth.
Why does "available" sometimes mean "not really"?
Availability is checked against:
- Stock — total units the operator has
- Existing bookings — in-progress and upcoming
- Service holds — units flagged as due for service won't accept new bookings
So a card might say "3 in stock" but if 3 are already booked, the picker will show no available dates. The system hides those dates rather than letting you book and then declining.
"No availability" troubleshooting
If a rental shows zero availability for your dates:
- Try shorter dates — long rentals have fewer compatible windows
- Try different start times — pickup time matters; the next-day return assumes a standard return window
- Drop quantity — even when 3 of 4 units are out, you can usually book 1
- Try adjacent dates — peak demand creates specific blocked days; ±1 day often works
- Ask Lucy — sometimes the inventory has a same-day cancellation or a vehicle just became available
What's an "estimate" vs a "quote"?
- Estimate — what the live picker shows you. It's accurate to the cent for the dates and options you've selected.
- Quote — for group bookings or special events, the operator may want to give you a custom price. Ask Lucy to forward your request.
The "quick estimate" fallback
Occasionally the live calculator can't reach the operator's pricing data. In that case you'll see a slightly simpler estimate (no tier discount applied) — clearly labeled. Refreshing the page usually restores the live calc.
