Extending and Editing Rentals
HiLucy Team·Mis à jour 2026-10-09·2 min read
This article covers the common changes you'll make to an in-flight rental: changing its dates, extending it, adding charges, and cancelling.
Change dates
Every date change starts from one button.
- In the Rentals tab, click the rental row to open the detail panel.
- Under Actions, click Change dates.
- Pick the new start and/or end.
- If the new dates would change the price, choose what happens to it:
- Keep the price — the dates move and the total stays exactly as it is. Use this when you're moving a booking as a favour or fixing a typo.
- Re-price for the new dates — the total is recalculated at your rates for the new length, keeping any discount the guest was sold. The modal shows the new total before you save.
- Click Update dates.
Nothing is charged or refunded here. If re-pricing raises the total, the difference is added to the balance — collect it with Take payment.
Extend a rental and take payment
Use this when a guest wants to keep the unit longer and is paying for it now.
- Click Change dates and pick the later end date.
- Click Extend and take payment.
- Check the extra cost, pick how the guest is paying (card on file, cash, payment link…), and confirm.
Add a charge
For damage, fuel top-up, late fees, extras after pickup, or anything not in the original booking.
- Click the row → Add Charge.
- Enter amount, choose a category (Damage, Fuel, Late, Extra, Other), and add a note.
- Pick how the charge is settled: Card on file (Stripe) or Recorded payment (cash/transfer).
- Save. The charge lands in the booking total and is visible in the deposit panel.
Cancel a rental
- Click the row → Cancel Rental.
- The modal previews the refund per the cancellation policy and shows the estimated return amount.
- Confirm. The rental moves to Trash (the fourth view in the rentals list); you can recover it within 30 days.
📝 Trash is soft-delete. Cancelled rentals release their unit assignment immediately so the unit becomes available for new bookings. The booking record itself stays in Trash for audit purposes.
